Kwanjula is a battle of words between spokesmen

The traditional marriage ceremony in Buganda may have changed over the years, but it still remains a battle of wits and cultural tongue-twisting between representatives of the two sides commonly known as (aboogezi) spokesmen; who engage each other in a question and answer challenge or in knowing, mentioning and following century old norms and traditions.

Introduction

In Uganda, most of the tribal communities practice traditional marriage which is commonly known as “Kwanjula” meaning (introduction). However the Kwanjula ceremony is mostly practiced by the Buganda ethnic community. The style in this marriage is very flamboyant in dressing and in all activities as seen in the video bellow; In this video JB and Joan had their “kwanjula” captured focussing on every detail of the ceremony.

Food

Food in Uganda consists of dishes made from grains, rice, millet, yam, beans and cowpeas, flours for bread, steamed bananas, including sorghum, maize, and stews cooked with meat, chicken and vegetables. Fresh butter and fresh milk features in many authentic foods in Uganda.

In Uganda, food defines the success of your function. Variety of food like steamed banana (Matooke) “Luwombo” , rice, meat, chicken among others are common on traditional weddings as well as church weddings.
